BASF, the chemical company with over 75 years of presence in Argentina, has signed a strategic agreement with Genneia, the country’s leading renewable energy producer, to supply clean electricity to all of its local production operations. The agreement covers its plants in Burzaco and Tortuguitas (Buenos Aires), and General Lagos and Santo Tomé (Santa Fe).

The contract guarantees 100% renewable electricity starting May 1, 2025, for a period of seven years. The supply will come from Genneia’s portfolio of wind and solar assets currently in operation, within the framework of the Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER). The measure will enable BASF to significantly reduce its carbon footprint in Argentina.
The agreement supports BASF’s global strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, with an interim target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030. The company emphasized that this alliance with Genneia not only enhances the environmental efficiency of its plants but also accelerates the transformation of the chemical sector toward a more sustainable model aligned with global environmental challenges.
“We are proud to keep moving forward in sustainability. This agreement allows us to operate more efficiently and responsibly, and reaffirms our environmental commitment,” said Renata Milanese, Managing Director of BASF for Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
From Genneia, Senior Commercial Manager Gabriela Guzzo noted: “The growth of renewable energy in Argentina is possible thanks to companies like BASF that are committed to a more responsible production model.” She also emphasized that this partnership strengthens the push to decarbonize industry and consolidate a cleaner energy matrix across the country.
With this contract, Genneia now serves more than 60 active corporate clients under the MATER regime, including companies from the agribusiness, automotive, food, construction, oil and gas, transportation, and pharmaceutical sectors.
Genneia’s Sustained Growth in the Renewable Sector
Genneia aims to reach 1.7 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2026, with a portfolio that includes 15 operational sites —eight wind farms and seven solar parks. Recent developments include La Elbita Wind Farm (Buenos Aires) and Malargüe 1 Solar Park (Mendoza), which have increased its installed capacity to 1,256 MW.
The company is also advancing new solar projects, such as Anchoris and San Rafael in Mendoza, and San Juan Sur. Overall, Genneia operates parks like Rawson, Trelew, Madryn, Chubut Norte, Villalonga, Pomona, Necochea, and the solar parks Ullum, Sierras de Ullum, Tocota III, and Malargüe 1 —building a broad geographic footprint and a diversified clean energy offering.
